Overview
This project provided an updated global assessment of the health impacts of pollution, showing it causes roughly 9 million premature deaths each year - one in six worldwide. While deaths from unsafe water and household pollution have declined, those from ambient air, toxic chemicals, and lead exposure are rising, especially in low- and middle-income countries. As a data analyst on the project, I worked on cleaning and harmonizing large international datasets, running statistical analyses, and producing clear visualizations that helped communicate these urgent findings to policymakers, researchers, and the public.
Pollution causes 9 million premature deaths each year - one in six worldwide. While water and household risks are falling, deaths from air pollution and toxic chemicals are rising fast, especially in poorer countries.
